2017-2019 Catalog

Proposals for 2017-19 Catalog

(Proposals for the 2017-19 Catalog Can No Longer Be Submitted)

In general, new courses, edits to existing courses, or new minors are proposed as part of the review cycle for a new catalog. Outside of a catalog review cycle, certain proposals may be submitted for consideration for the current catalog.

If a proposal may be applied to the current 2017-2019 catalog, the Office of the Registrar will adjust the Start Term based upon when the proposal was received and the below quarterly deadlines.

Propose a New Course

A new course may be proposed outside of a catalog review cycle if it does not create a new curriculum requirement for students on the current or prior catalogs. For example, the new course may be added to a list of electives. A new course proposal must be approved by the department and/or college offering the course before it can be reviewed by the Academic Senate Curriculum Committee (ASCC).

For a new course to be offered in:

Edit a Course

Outside of a catalog review cycle, the only edits that may be proposed for a course are:

  • making requisites less restrictive
  • adding a crosslisting
  • adding online delivery of a course that has traditionally been offered in-person (proposal is required only if more than 50% of the course’s contact hours are being replaced with technology)

A proposal to edit a course must be approved by the department and/or college offering the course before it can be submitted to the Office of the Registrar on behalf of the Academic Senate Curriculum Committee (ASCC). Refer to the following table for timelines that are structured to allow time for review and implementation prior to the class schedule being published for the term.

For an edit to a course to first be effective:

Propose a New Minor

As time allows and on a case-by-case basis, the Academic Senate Curriculum Committee may review proposals for new minors outside of a catalog review cycle.

Proposal for a New Degree Program

Due to the extensive review process that includes approval by the CSU Chancellor’s Office, submission of a new degree program proposal is not restricted to a catalog review cycle. To propose a new degree program, contact the Academic Programs and Planning Office.
